Good game? Maybe. Front page worthy? No.
While this was an OK game with a good concept, I do not think that it was executed well at all. Allow me to tell my story...
I started out with campaign mode, only to find a poorly instructed, very buggy system which only allowed me to buy a unit a quarter of the time that I actually hit the button which meant I had to mash the click button for a few minutes to actually order the required troops. I thought trekking across the map with no real incentive for fighting, not even money, was tiresome, and only fighting was minorly enjoyable. After beating campaign mode (and having to try that treasure quest 3 times) I decided against my better judgment to try survival mode. At first, I went with the Kingdom as I was most familiar with them and air strike seemed a necessary spell. However, the opposing team continued to wipe out my smaller infantry with critters and the like and I could find no reason not to always attack with my colossus. this led me to the strategy of picking the ape people who start with a colossus bonus and after every level use all points on upgrading him further. even without using any troops, they were decimated within a few rounds. eventually, I was left with just me and my prime ape against 111 troops, including an opposing colossus. surely I stood no chance. However, my colossus easily crushed the opposing one and took no damage from the smaller troops over the next 100 rounds to follow which is what it took to kill the rest of the little buggers. survival could have been a nice touch if there had been any strategy to it. my biggest problem with the mode was that i couldnt order extra troops. that really eliminated any chance that i had at making a real choice in the game. also, every round pits you against the same people over and over. fascinating! unfortunately, as i went with the superior apes i was stuck with the war drums spell, which i leveled after my colossus was maxed. no matter how much i demoralized the troops or drained my opponents leadership points, they casted and attacked like nothing had happened. which brings me again to the point that there is no strategy. im sure that this aspect is perhaps a little better in the ful version with the ability to heal your troops and the like but I have no, absolutely none at all, incentive to purchase it.
Although I obviously have many gripes with this game, it did have SOME redeeming qualities. The graphics were nice; I liked the bloodshed and troops flying all over the place. Everything looked good. The game also had its moments: the colossus on colossus battles were really nice and the music was a good touch. Speaking of music, the start up tunes were very odd. they sounded like something i would here from weebls-stuff or something. i guess that most of the things that i would like to see fixed probably are in the full version, but as i have probably hinted at and others have stated it simply costs too much. I would be surprised who would buy it outside of any personal relationships.
I had a lot to say about this game, but basically everything I wanted to say is summed up in my subject. Maybe its worth a little of your time but not worth loving or god forbid buying.
